Waratahs Junior Rugby Union Club Newcastle

The Juniors - History

The Waratahs Junior Rugby Union Club had its first players run onto the field in 1940 and is one of the oldest junior rugby union clubs in the Newcastle and Hunter competition.

The club has produced 11 Australian Junior Rugby players, 28 NSW Junior representatives and 86 NSW Country representatives. Our latest national representative was Maya Stewart who played for the gold medal winning Australian Girls team in the 2018 World Schools 7s Championships held in New Zealand and has been a member of the NSW Waratahs Super W squad since 2020.

A host of senior club members also played in junior teams for The Waratahs before gaining major representative honours.

The junior club offers a safe, value for money opportunity for boys and girls to play rugby in a great club surrounded by a family environment.

The club in 2023 fielded Teeny Tiny Tahs (2 to 5 year olds), Tiny Tahs (5 to 7 year olds), Under 8s, Under 11s and a merged Under 14 girls team with Lake Macquarie.

The Tahs also entered four teams in the Hunter Junior Rugby Union’s Spring 7s competition - these being Girls Under 13 and Under 15 teams and Boys Under 13 and Under 15 teams.
